00037173 - A Local Economic Development and Strategy for the Bryansk Oblast, an Area of the Russian Federation Severely Affected by the Chernobyl Accident

Description:

The project helps to promote sustainable economic and social development focusing on communities of the Briansk Oblast of the Russian Federation which were severely affected by the Chernobyl accident. This will be done through the creation of a partnership-based regional economic development agency, and the formulation and implementation of a locally-led market-oriented recovery strategy. The project will develop economically viable mechanisms supporting job creation, self-employement, and development of alternative livelihood options for local communities, thus helping to overcome economic and social consequences of the Chernobyl accident.

Expected Outcome:

1. A functioning Local Economic Development Agency for the Briansk Oblast.


2. Demonstrated improvement of economic situation and employment levels of the local population trough implementation of pilot subprojects and micro crediting scheme.


3. Improved knowledge and competence in the field of economic and social development police and practices at the local and Oblast levels.
