17.06.2009. UNDP/GEF projects on energy efficiency presented at the international conference in Berlin
The 5th International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Domestic Appliances and Lighting took place on 16-18 June in Berlin. The Conference was organized by the German Energy Agency (DENA) and was supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the European Commission, the International Energy Agency and the UN. A wide range of issues related to energy consumption and energy saving in buildings have been discussed at the event. A lot of attention has been paid to the energy efficiency policies, including energy efficiency standards and labeling.
Three papers were presented by the specialists from Russia with the participation and support of UNDP. Two new large-scale UNDP/GEF projects were presented at the conference and raised high interest among the participants: “Transforming the Market for Efficient Lighting” and “Standards and labels to promote energy efficiency in Russia”. Both UNDP/GEF projects have been developed in the framework of the Global Environment Facility Umbrella Programme “Energy efficiency in Russia” and support Russia’s efforts to reduce the energy intensity of the economy.
About 300 international experts on energy efficiency from 24 countries attended the EEDAL conference to discuss the latest developments and tomorrow’s strategies in the energy efficiency of domestic appliances and lighting. More than 130 scientific papers were presented. The event provided a unique forum to share both knowledge and experiences, and created a basis for a constructive exchange and inspiring debates. Participation of Russian experts in such international forum is particularly timely in the context of the policy targets set by the Russian government aiming towards improved energy efficiency in all sectors of Russian economy.
