01.06.2009. Project on engaging Russian business in UN Global Compact driven sustainable development is launched

On June 1, 2009 Project Document on Engaging Russian Business in Global Compact Driven Sustainable Development was signed by A.N. Klepach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

The Project aims for the development and implementation of sustainable social and economic development projects jointly by the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Russia and by Russian and multinational companies, who are either currently participating, or are intending to join UN Global Compact Network. The main priority of the Project in 2009-2010 is the development and implementation of projects that aim to minimize negative economic, social and environmental impact of the financial and economic crisis for the company-participants of the Global Compact Network Russia in the territories where they do business.

On his letter to the senior management of UNDP, Russia Mr Klepach has emphasized that the Ministry shares the view of UNDP on importance of applied projects for companies in Russia in the field of sustainable development and the prioritization of projects on crisis management for 2009-2010.

The UNDP approach of joint implementation and co-financing of projects by UNDP and interested companies was fully supported by the Ministry.

The National Implementing Agency for the Project is the Ministry for Economic Development of Russian Federation and the National Project Director is Mr. FOMICHEV Oleg Vladislavovich, Director, Department of Strategic Management (Programs) and Budgeting, Ministry for Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
