30, 07.2011 Participants of the UNDP/GEF Project Steering Committee and Project Team visited the RK Nature Park Visit center in Volga Region

The building that had been constructed in 1980 and abandoned for a long time was totally reconstructed and partially equipped within the frames of the UNDP/GEF Project implementation. Now it is the Visit Center of RK Nature Park ready to welcome tourists, delegations of school children and visitors who wish to know more about the nature peculiarities of the unique place in steppe that is situated on the Volga bank in Yustinskiy District of Kalmykia as well as about the culture, history and everyday life of the Kalmykians.

On July, 30, 2011 the Visit Center welcomed its first guests – the UNDP/GEF Project team, members of the Steering Committee and representatives of RK local authorities. The visitors were treated to the traditional Kalmyk tea and shown a folk performance. The Nature Park director Boris Moudankiev spoke on the Park activities, on the aims and main expositions of the Visit Center. The guests learnt the peculiarities of the Park biodiversity and had an opportunity to see an authentic Kalmyk kibitka with household items and national costumes. First deputy chairman of RK Government Vyacheslav Ilyumzhinov thanked the Project for the financial aid and information support given to the Visit Center that is going to be a guest center of the Park. Maxim Vergheichik, a representative of UNDP regional center for Europe and CIS (Bratislava),  and Head of UNDP Ecological Department in RF Natalia Olofinskaya (Moscow) wished success to the staff of the Park and further development and efficient work of the Center.

After the presentation the visitors were taken to the hayland that was restored from the farm field located on the Park territory. This work was implemented by one of the Project’s grantees. The guests had an opportunity to enjoy the nature of the Park and its rich biodiversity.
