03.12.2010. Annual general meeting of the UN Global Compact Network in the Russian Federation
On the 2nd of December there was the general meeting of the UN Global Compact Network in the Russian Federation. During the meeting a number of significant issues were discussed: results of the Network activities in 2010 and defining of the 2011 priorities; arranging elections of the Network Steering Committee; discussion of the “Declaration of intent on cooperation between the European based Global Compact Local Networks” and expediency of approving the document by the Global Compact Network in the Russian Federation.
In his opening statements Sasha Graumann, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, has noted that “socially responsible business practice and strategy of sustainable development are spreading more and more in Russia. Majority of big companies more or less apply modern corporate social responsibility practices. UNDP promotes the UN Global compact principles in Russia”. Sasha Graumann has also mentioned that is necessary to increase the Network activity.
Alexander Bim, appointed as the Coordinator of the Global Compact Network in Russia and member of the Network Steering Committee, has reminded about the election procedures of the Network Steering Committee and necessity of candidates’ nomination before the end of December 2010. The meeting participants have approved suggested election order of the Steering Committee and time – the Committee candidates should be elected no later than the middle February of 2011.
Alexander Bim also reported on experience of other local UN Global Compact Networks and called the Global Compact Network in Russia participants to be more active and initiative in the framework of the Network activities. The joint Declaration of intent on cooperation between the European based Global Compact Local Networks will contribute to the activating of UN Global Compact Network in Russia work.
Meeting participants were listening with interest presentation “Experience of cooperation with interested parties in the framework of preparing reports on sustainable development” by Pavel Pletnev, head of corporate culture department of Rosneft oil company. It was decided to continue discussing companies’ experience in the sphere of corporate social responsibility.
