05.11.2009. UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative Frode Mauring visited North Ossetia-Alania
On 4-5 November 2009, Mr. Frode Mauring, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Russian Federation came with a monitoring mission to the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania.
The UN Resident Coordinator visited the memorial cemetery and school № 1 in Beslan attacked by terrorists in September 2004, which caused a large number of victims among children and adults. One of the points on the agenda of Mr. Mauring’s mission was monitoring of the progress of a project UNDP implements in Beslan. This is the construction of a sports boarding school named after Ivan Kanidi. On 5 November 2009, Mr. Mauring had a meeting with the Chairman and members of the Republican Government to discuss ongoing projects and prospects for future cooperation.
Since 2009, the United Nations Development Programme has been realizing the project, ‘Sustainable integration and recovery in North Ossetia – Alania’. Frode Mauring visited the Agricultural Extension Service Centre in Prigorodny region and a Marketing Centre, established in the framework of the project. The discussion during the visits was focused on how UNDP could facilitate the development of small business and the creation of jobs in the Republic.
