25.09.2009. Workshop and training Dialogue of Public Authorities and Civil Society as a Strategy to Prevent Conflicts in the North Caucasus

One of the objectives of the project Sustainable Integration and Recovery in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania is to increase the capacity of local authorities and NGOs involved into the socio-economic development, and support to NGOs activities in North Ossetia-Alania in the field of social cohesion of local communities. Within the project the interactive training under the topic Dialogue of Public Authorities and Civil Society as a Strategy to Prevent Conflicts in the North Caucasus was organized for local NGOs and some government structures and took place 3-7 august 2009 in Friendship House, Vladikavkaz.

The purposed of the event was to support local NGOs, identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop measures aimed at consolidating activities in the field of social cohesion of local communities. The analysis of local NGOs activity showed that many organizations having no financial support from abroad, are unable to implement humanitarian projects. The funds received from membership dues are not enough in case there is no any considerable support from the Government. In this regard, it was suggested to create a common website and publish on it as much information about donors and grant competitions, cover the political and economic events in North Ossetia-Alania, and other as possible.

As a result of the training, the workshop was organized. Its objective was to consolidate the efforts of local NGOs in the field of conflict prevention and socio-economic development. The workshop took place on 22 September 2009 in the Republican Friendship House. Representatives from concerned ministries and departments of North Ossetia-Alania, as well as representatives of NGOs and NOs were invited. The mechanisms of interaction were discussed and specific activities to consolidate improvement of NGOs activities were developed.
